Last night, Marlen & I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of enjoying an evening with local (SA) group “Just Jinjer” at the Methodist Church in Greenmarket Square, Cape Town, of all venues!
WOW! What an amazing experience, and certainly one of the
best live musical performances I”ve experienced. The venue was “unique” and stunning (given that it is a fully functional Church, with a coffee shop et all); the sound engineering was superb, with the acoustic of the Church adding that “extra dimension” to the experience; the audience was “fabulous” to say the least, and then there was the band, which is why I will not be supporting foreign artists any longer…
Just Jinjer managed to instill a renewed sense of pride about being South African: They managed to turn the evening into a “personal
encounter” and blew the audience away with their unplugged renditions of their best music. Art Mathews and his crew are amazingly talented musicians and yet, still maintain their
sense of humility and reality!! We left the Church with a sense of warmth and fulfillment, which was evident in the spontaneous bounce in our steps on the way to the car-park.
With this kind of talent,
passion, creativity and a real will to entertain an audience, why should we be sending our hard earned Rands over to arrogant, rude, and to be honest, seriously-lacking foreign performers?? It”s time to bring it back home, I feel – keep it local and let”s build up our own before we go “donate” to the “very needy”
foreign causes – who stick up a middle finger to us as they leave with the millions they”ve been paid to come over and screw us over with their false sense of abilities!!!
Well done to Just Jinjer and “Studio 7” for the experience!!!
