Lana Crowster is a singer, composer, arranger based in Cape Town, South Africa. Lana started singing at the age of 2 and began her career in performance at the tender age of 6, entering numerous competitions and international Eisteddfods. At only 9 years old, Lana was awarded a gold medal for achieving the highest percentage in her age group at the Tygerburg International Eisteddfod and continued to achieve honours and highest honours awards for singing well into her early teens. At 13, Lana joined the award winning choir of The Settlers High School where she featured as a soloist. At 14, she was asked to join The Belhar Music Collective, a locally based youth jazz band facilitated by Keith Tabisher, in which her love for the genre was cultivated. At 15 years old, Lana was introduced to another future love when she joined The Artscape Youth Jazz Big Band in 2003. Under the tutelage of Dr Mike Rossi and Darryl Andrews, exposure to this art form inspired her to further her knowledge of jazz, bebop and swing in its entirety. Lana holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Vocal Performance as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in Jazz Vocal Performance, which she achieved with distinction, from the University of Cape Town. Lana continues to work as a lead vocalist in numerous jazz, pop and cover bands as well as her own original projects, as a session musician appearing in many radio and television advertisements, as a backing vocalist for renowned local and international artists, and also as a music educator to secondary and tertiary level students.
